Frequently Asked Questions

We’re an innovative, dynamic company dedicated to getting the most out of your innovation tax relief claim.

Innovation tax relief – also known as R&D tax credits – are an incentive developed by the UK government to reward companies for creating or improving products, processes and services.

On average, your claim will take 4 – 5 working days.

Employee costs such as salaries, pensions, National Insurance contributions can be reimbursed, as well as materials and software used, utilities and clinical trial volunteer payments. You can also claim costs for freelancers and subcontractors.

Businesses with fewer than 500 employees and turnover of no more than €100m or a balance sheet total not exceeding €86m, are considered SMEs, making them eligible for the SME R&D tax credits incentive.

If your business has 500 or more members of staff and exceeds the above turnover or balance sheet total, then it’s considered a large company and benefits from the Research and Development Expenditure Credit (RDEC).

However, receiving grants or having subcontractors can affect which incentive you can claim under – and you may even be eligible for both.

Our experts at Areande will ensure that we use the best combination of solutions to maximise your claim value.

A typical innovation tax relief claim is a manual, lengthy process; however, we use technology to streamline the process and claim back as much as possible.

Our team work tirelessly to process your claim with minimal involvement from you. Rest assured we will handle the entire process, leaving you free to focus on what you do best.

Claims are calculated using your qualifying expenditure and an enhancement rate. Under the SME scheme, companies can get back up to 33p for every £1 they have spent on an innovative project. Under RDEC, Areande claims are worth up to 11p for each £1 spent on innovation. If you are a profit-making company, this will come in the form of a corporation tax reduction. If loss-making, you will receive a cash credit. Your company could even receive a combination of the two. This is shown in the table below:
